Workshop for Experiencing Indigo Dyeing at the Science Museum
In this workshop you can experience indigo dyeing, using simple tools to make original patterns to a handkerchief.
- Date: June 21 (Sunday), July 19 (Sunday), 2026
- Time: (1) 10:00 ~, (2) 13:00 ~ (about 90 minutes for each)
- Place: Kawasaki Municipal Science Museum (Study Room)
- Everyone can participate (elementary schooler or younger children must be accompanied by 1 guardian)
- Fee: 1,320 Yen (handkerchief and rubber gloves included)
- Capacity: 10 participants for each time slot. Reservation required.

- * The indigo liquid may splash onto your clothes or shoes and stain them. Please wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting stained.
Special Exhibition of Traditional Indigo Dyeing Workshop “Inheriting the Indigo -Encountering Fabrics in a Folk House-“
Dyeing fabrics with indigo and continuing to use them —
this practice has been handed down through the generations as a part of everyday life.
This exhibition will be held as a special exhibition of Traditional Indigo Dyeing Workshop. The world of indigo dyeing, normally presented at the Traditional Indigo Dyeing Workshop, will this time be introduced in the exhibition room of our museum.
We will showcase the process and beauty of indigo dyeing, and through actual dyed fabrics, we hope to convey the charm of indigo, which is created by human hands and the passage of time.

- Time: 9:30 ~ 17:00(Last admission 16:30)

Tour about the Architecture of the Folk Houses
An architect of Minkaen explains the highlights about architecture of the folk houses in each area. Visitors can join or leave halfway through the tour, so please feel free to join on the spot.
